Vancouver is 40% Asian and of that, are mostly Chinese (no need to be politically correct about points 1 and 2). Significantly omitted is the very high cost of living. Foreign and domestic speculators have manipulated the housing market into a massive economic bubble that has put ownership beyond the reach of the average citizen and rental costs are averaging $1600 per month. Taxes are extremely high with 12% hst (adds 1/8 more onto the price). "Western" people's restaurants are very expensive to eat at and they expect you to pay a 10% to 15% gratuity/tip so if you add taxes, the final bill is 25% higher than the menu price. Transportation, especially gasoline is especially expensive (currently $1.30 per liter, US $5 per gallon) so owning and maintaining ($125 per hour repair rates) a car is very expensive but necessary to enjoy the "Outdoor Living Lifestyle" quoted in point 6 and 8. Basically if you are going to move to Vancouver you better come rich in capital (like the Chinese immigrants) or be professionaly employed earning $100,000 or more annually to be able to participate in the Vancouver lifestyle otherwise you will find it a struggle to survive and spend most of your earnings just paying for transportation, food and housing.
