Vancouver is routinely rated one of the best places in the world to live. Along with the great views and proximity to ocean and wilderness, the city and surrounding suburbs have good transport links, highly rated schools, a diverse cultural life and mild winters.
Of course this all comes at a price and Vancouver has one of the most expensive real estate markets in all of Canada.
As a general rule, the west side of Vancouver is more expensive than east. In the downtown area, the West End and Coal Harbour are two of the most expensive places to live while Downtown Eastside is one of the most troubled urban neighbourhoods in Canada.
The western suburbs such as Point Grey and Kitsilano are pricier than neighbourhoods of Vancouver East - not to be confused with Downtown Eastside.
The further east and south you travel from the city, the cheaper the housing becomes. But neighbourhoods in Vancouver East, in particular are on the up and up as younger families move out from the city in search of more affordable housing.
