You'll find below some helpful tips and guidelines to write a blog post or article for the site.

Key Guidelines

2Vancouver.com is aimed at visitors, newcomers and immigrants coming to Vancouver (although locals read our site too!). Please keep that in mind as you're writing - assume the person isn't familiar with local laws or customs.

2Vancouver.com is frequently pitched to provide relevant information about various topics such as local events and festivals in the city, immigration updates, Real Estate news, educational choices, expat coaching, moving and relocation services, medical and travel insurance information, useful tips to get a job... 2Vancouver.com is ready to broaden the scope of these topics if the contents of your contribution is relevant enough for its audience.

Read a few entries of our blog and some articles from the website to understand what kind of content 2Vancouver.com is looking for.

  • Avoid marketing speak. Write as an objective author, not to promote any product or service.
  • Use second-person. Using a sentence such as "If you are new to Vancouver, you will want to do x, y and z" is fine and fits well with our editorial style. Third-person is fine in certain situations, but often sounds too cumbersome. For example, "If a person is new to Vancouver, he or she will want to do z, y and z" sounds too clunky. An exception to this rule is a legal article, which is often written in a more formal tone.
  • Promotion for the guest writer. All guest authors have a personal page created for them on the website. We allow 1-2 links to the author's website, blog or other branded online destination. A head shot of the author will also be published. You can send your picture along with your contribution (format: .jpeg - 80 x 80 pixels).
  • All articles must be original. Give 2Vancouver.com a unique and different angle for the topic you are writing about. Duplicate content from an existing website will not be accepted.
  • Enhancing the contents with visuals such as photos or videos is highly recommended. You should provide visuals that 2Vancouver.com is authorized to use, and photographers should be credited. If they have a website, the link can be added below the article.
  • "Less is more". Try to be as concise as possible. There is no length restriction but ideally your article is a maximum of 1,000 words.
  • Avoid using abbreviations.
  • It's alright to criticize something or provide negative opinions as long as you can clearly justify it.
