Powder hounds will love skiing in the Okanagan. The resorts in the region have some of the best and most consistent powder skiing in British Columbia so you won’t need to hire a helicopter to find the best snow conditions.

Okanagan ski hills also boast some of the highest winter sunshine hours in the province and the shortest lift lines.

The Okanagan’s five resorts are easily accessible from the main towns and if you like to tour around, some of them are close enough for a ski safari.

Okanagan resorts are not as flash as Whistler but they offer a wide choice of winter sport activities at prices that are usually cheaper than the coastal ski resorts.


Big White Ski Resort

Big White is by far the largest ski hill in the Okanagan. The ski-in, ski-out resort is situated 56km south-east of Kelowna and offers everything you would expect of the full-service resort including night-time skiing, lessons, rentals and a wide choice of accessible accommodation.

Big White features 118 downhill trails, a terrain park, 25km of cross-country trails, a huge tubing park and snow mobiling trails.The extensive daycare facilities, children’s ski school and nightly kid-friendly activities have made Big White a favourite destination for families.

Silver Star Ski Resort

The resort features the most extensive maintained cross-country trail system in British Columbia.

With one lift pass you have access to over 100km of ski trails at Silver Star and the adjacent Sovereign Lake Nordic Ski Club.

Apex Mountain Ski Resort

Apex Mountain is a 30-minute drive west of Penticton. The resort features 67 trails, a terrain park, 56km of cross-country trails and a tubing park. Accommodation on the mountain is limited, but there is plenty of accommodation in and around Penticton.

Crystal Mountain Ski Resort

Crystal Mountain near Westbank, is a small local resort focused almost exclusively on downhill skiing and boarding. It has just 21, mostly easy/intermediate trails and a terrain park. Crystal Mountain also provides 12km of snowshoe trails.Its December to March ski season is a little shorter than other Okanagan resorts.

Mount Baldy Ski Resort

If you like glade skiing, empty slopes and little, to no commercialization, the southern Okanagan ski resort of Mount Baldy is for you. The mountain has 35 downhill runs, a terrain park, 20km of cross-country skiing and a tobogganing area. The small lift system includes several T-bars, so snowboarders be warned!

Private cabin rentals can be pricey and B&B and hotel accommodation on the mountain is extremely limited. Most accommodation has to be booked in Osoyoos or Oliver, both of which are about 45-minutes drive away.

Tips:  Après ski and off-slope activities at some of the smaller resorts are limited, so if you want to party hard, the Okanagan may be too quiet for you.
