Shopping on Water StreetJust minutes away from Waterfront Station and the Canada Place cruise terminal, Water Street in the heart of Gastown is the place to pick up tourist tat and tourist treasures, First Nation and contemporary art, local designer gear and exclusive furniture for your swanky designer loft.
With lots of small independent specialty stores, clothing boutiques and a high concentration of cafes and restaurants, Water Street is a great place to shop, browse and hang out.
Food choices are many and varied with casual dining restaurants, bistros, bakeries, diners and delis offering up everything from French and North African to tapas and gourmet sandwiches. Restaurants of note include the Salt Tasting Room (in Blood Alley), Water Street Café and Social - especially for its deli sandwiches.
A number of the restored old buildings provide local character and office space and homes for skinny-jeaned hipsters. Water Street used to be jaded tourist strip but with the renovation of heritage buildings in the surrounding streets, the choice of adventurous restaurants and unique stores in Gastown is growing rapidly.
Water Street is cheerful but not cheap. However, you will find designer and one-of-kind items that you won't find in the indoor shopping malls.
